Yerevan Woman Bleeds to Death after Being Stabbed by Intimate Partner

37-year-old Yerevan woman Alina Maghakyan reportedly bled to death in her Shangavit apartment on November 25 after being stabbed in the thigh by her intimate partner, according to a statement issued by Armenia's Investigative Committee on Sunday.

Aram Mnatsakanyan, a 34-year-old native of the town of Artashat, stabbed the woman during an argument sparked by jealousy, Shamshyan.com wrote today. “Before the argument at their apartment, [the couple] had gotten drunk at some club […] He had gotten fed up with his partner of 3 years and her constant demands that he not be with anybody else…” the website reported, adding that Mnatsakanyan had supposedly told during questioning that after stabbing the woman in the thigh, he had covered the wound with some dressing and left the apartment the couple have been renting.

Mnatsakanyan has been arrested and charged with intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm and negligent homicide. The corresponding article in Armenia's Criminal Code provides for a punishment of 5-10 years' imprisonment.
