Armenian Opposition Forces to Nominate Joint Ombudsman Candidate: Press

Haykakan Zhamanak daily newspaper reports that Armenia's ruling Republican Party plans to nominate Deputy Minister of Justice Arman Tatoyan, 34, as its candidate for the post of the country's next Ombudsman.

The daily's sources claim that the biography of the European law expert has already been sent to President Serzh Sargsyan's office. In the meantime, Haykakan Zhamanak says, opposition parliamentary forces have been negotiating to nominate Heritage faction member Zaruhi Postanjyan as their joint candidate for the Armenian Human Rights Defender's post.

Hovhannes Sahakyan, Head of the Standing Parliamentary Committee on State and Legal Affairs, told the paper Thursday that as of 6 pm, February 4, а a total of three nomination application forms had been requested from the Committee by the Republican Party, the Prosperous Armenia Party, and independent MP Edmon Marukyan.

The independent lawmaker, Haykakan Zhamanak notes, has taken the form with the intention of nominating Postanjyan, while Prosperous Armenia MP Tigran Urikhanyan plans to nominate Narek Aloyan, a council member of Urikhanyan's “Alliance” party.
