Shots Fired at a Car Carrying Armenian Governor

On Wednesday, May 20, at around 6:15 PM an unknown gunman opened fire on a car carrying the governor of Syunik province Surik Khachatryan, the Armenian Police said in a statement later in the day.

Various media outlets reported that one person accompanying Khachatryan was wounded as a result of the shooting; however, speaking to journalists, the governor's adviser Zarzand Nikoghosyan said “nobody was hurt.”

The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia has initiated a criminal case pursuant to the Part 1 of the Article 235 of RA Criminal Code (Illegal procurement, transportation, keeping or carrying of weapons), and Part 2 of the Article 34-104 (attempt of murder), the committee's spokesperson Sona Truzyan told Armtimes.com.
