Karabakh War Veterans Were Not Allowed to Go to “Historic Cilicia”

A group of 5 Karabakh War veterans on April 21 tried to go from Yerevan to Beirut, and from there to Latakia, where Armenians from Kessab, Syria, are being sheltered, to help them; however, the veterans were stopped by security officials at the airport, reports the Pre-Parliament initiative [AM].

The veterans were urged to go to Latakia by Vahan Badasyan, a parliamentary deputy of the de facto Republic Nagorno-Karabakh.

Recall, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan had criticized the veterans' willingness to go to Kessab. "That will be the biggest step to endanger our country," he had said.

"We weren't going to Aleppo; we weren't going to Damascus; we were going to part of historic Cilicia, where Armenians have lived for millennia," said war veteran Pavlik Manukyan.
