PHOTO, VIDEO: Pension Law Opponents Held Silent Protest Outside Constitutional Court

About 200 people protesting the mandatory component of a new pension law, including members of the pressure group Dem Em, organized a silent rally outside the Constitutional Court, which has been examining the constitutionality of certain provisions of the controversial law since 10 am this morning.

Recall, since January 1, Armenia introduced a mandatory funded pension system, according to which, those born after January 1, 1974, will be required to make pension contributions of 5–10% of their monthly wages to one of two private pension funds.

Demonstrators today covered their eyes with ribbons to symbolize that "justice should be blind and act only in terms of the law."

Though the new law will not apply to them, there were also a great many elderly people who participated in the demonstration, who said they came to protest "an illegal decision".

During the rally, a large number of police officers guarded the court building.
