Armenian Human Rights Org Appeals to Military Prosecution in Conscript Assault Case

On Jul. 16, the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly (HCA) Vanadzor Office submitted a claim to the RA Military Prosecutor’s Office (with a copy sent to the RA Ministry of Defense) regarding assault, violence and inhumane treatment of a conscript in the 4th military base in village of Khachik in Vayk.

R. Hovhannisyan approached the human rights organization for protecting his son’s rights and said that an officer in the battalion, seeing a phone in his son’s hand, snatched it and ordered him to do push-ups as a form of punishment.

The son, according to Hovhannisyan, refused, as a result of which he was subject to a beating and inhumane treatment.

The HCA-Vanadzor Office is asking the military prosecutor’s office to launch criminal proceedings and respond to the organization with its decision regarding this case.
