Armenians, Azerbaijanis Join Together in Art Caucasus Program

Russian creative workers have decided to bring artists of the Caucasus together through an exhibition as part of the Art Caucasus–Big Caucasus project, which aims to explore the main trends in cultural development and the ongoing artistic processes in the Caucasus region.

The project will highlight work by artists from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Chechnya, Ingushetia, North Ossetia, Dagestan, Georgia and Abkhazia. A solo exhibit of the late Georgian-Armenian artist Gayane Khachaturian will be on display in the Perm State Art Gallery in the Komsomolskyi Prospekt of the Russian city of Perm.

The event is organized by Ministry of Culture of the Perm region, Perm Museum of Contemporary Art, museum director Marat Gelman, the international Gayane Khachaturian Foundation, and Foundation director Valery Hanukaev. The curators of the project are Vitaly Patsukov and  Irina Yashkova.

“What comes to mind at the mention of modern art in the Caucasus? Everyone’s stuck in the period of the film Mimino. Art Caucasus was created specifically to address gaps in this matter. Our motto is ‘all power to the Creator!’ and ‘lhe life of the Caucasus through the eyes of artists’,” said Gelman, reports Novostnik.ru.
