Armenian President Deems Azerbaijan’s Accusations to be Defamatory

RA President Serzh Sargsyan today met with OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs Robert Bradtke (USA), Bernard Fassier (France) and Igor Popov (Russia), as well as Personal Representative of the OSCE Chair-in-Office, Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk, during their visit to the region.

As reported by the Armenian president’s press office, Sargsyan reaffirmed Armenia’s readiness to continue negotiations within the framework of agreements reached during the last meeting of the presidents of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan in Sochi.

It was noted that Armenia has taken steps following the meeting toward informing the public and creating an environment of mutual trust between the parties. In addition, attention was paid to Azerbaijan’s continuing threats following the Sochi meeting, as well as disseminating misinformation that a nine-year-old child was killed by an Armenian sniper.

Sargsyan noted the accusation is defamatory since actions against civilians, in particular children, do not fit in an Armenian soldier’s moral character. The accusation in this particular incident is more futile than anything, since in the location noted it is technically impossible to carry out such an act.

The parties discussed next steps in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement negotiations process.
